When the Algorithm Meets the Analyst: An Introductory Workshop to AI and the Therapeutic Frame

Description of Workshop

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the world around us—shaping how people communicate, create, and even seek help. As therapists, we can’t ignore these shifts: they affect our clients, our work, and the wider social context in which therapy happens. In this two-hour interactive workshop, we’ll consider how AI is being used, why it matters, and potential benefits and risks that can arise as this technology enters deeply human spaces. Through short demos, discussion, and shared reflection, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of what AI is, its real-world applications, and its implications for our professional and personal lives.

Note: Portions of this description were prepared with assistance from ChatGPT, an AI language model. The GenAI work was based on the learning outcomes and other input from the facilitators, and that output was then edited by the workshop facilitators.

  1. Describe the key concepts and application of AI.

  2. Explain how AI and its current place in the world directly impact us as therapists and people in the world.
