ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Aging and the aging body are universal experiences that impact us both personally and as a collective. People as they age often respond with disbelief seeing their reflection in the mirror and are taken aback by the difference between how they feel on the inside and how they appear on the outside.
Through guided imagery and discussions, we explore our own expectations and assumptions about what it means to age well. We weigh against the backdrop of societal expectations of aging. This didactic and experiential workshop illuminates the multiple dialectics of aging, (e.g. to fight versus to accept, dependence versus interdependence, etc.), while navigating our individual aging processes. We explore these multiple dialectics of aging and look deeply at issues of accepting, challenging, and honoring diverse narratives, cultural mandates, and lived experiences. From this broader perspective we open the door to more expansive thinking that can engender curiosity instead of dread.
